The sun set entirely too quickly on this evening during Maren and AJ’s maternity session. I had the most beautiful subject in Maren and could have photographed her for hours and hours. They are expecting their first baby, a little boy, next month and I cannot wait to me him, but probably not as much as this beautiful momma.
I asked Shawnie Curtis, make up artist, to create a soft and natural look on Maren for this shoot. She does both hair and make up and I could not have been more pleased with how it turned out.
We did this session in and around the small town of Jacksonville, OR which is a touristy town nestled in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains. Maren’s simple shirt with lacy shoulder details paired with jeans and ballerina flats created the perfect casual look to start our session. I picked up a few different maxi dresses from Fred Meyer’s and loved this aqua one on her and was glad she was game for wearing for last part of our session.
Thanks, Maren and AJ, for being such an awesome couple and allowing me to document this most special time in your lives!
One of my personal goals for this session was to create a silhouette image against the setting sun. In Jacksonville, the main challenge was finding a spot high enough to catch the sun going down behind the mountains. That turned out to be on an old Catholic wagon trail that runs along the outside of the historic Jacksonville cemetery. The sun was already behind the hills when we made it up there, but the clouds rolling in created a dramatic, beautiful sky.
